When I directed "The Miracle Worker" at our local community theatre, I spent a lot of time thinking about Helen Keller's life, especially her childhood.
Can you imagine being blind and deaf from infancy, especially at that time when there was so little help for such children? She accomplished more in her lifetime than most people ever do, despite the hurdles in her path.
Miss Keller led a full, rich life and spent a great deal of it helping other people. Her courage, perseverance, and grace are truly inspirational.
Today, I'd like to share something she said:
"The world is full of suffering, it is also full of overcoming it."
When I'm having a particularly difficult day, that quote helps me a great deal.
There are no simple answers to why there is so much suffering. We could search for them forever and frustrate ourselves to no end looking for them. In the last few months, it seems that many of the people I know with difficult Migraines and headaches are suffering more. With the state of our economy and our health care system, it's more difficult for them to find good medical care to begin with and to afford it once they find it.
With no simple answers to "Why," I go back to Miss Keller's statement for inspiration:
"The world is full of suffering, it is also full of overcoming it."
